VALUES - Why Do You Exist?
The Purpose (and Meaning) Of Your Life
Let's do a quick reflection exercise and call it "Why Do I Exist?"
I will share a few thoughts about life that may not be easy to accept, and ask you a question at the end to help you reflect.
Are you ready?
Thoughts To Help Your Reflection (1)
An inevitable truth is that you will get older. Your body will deteriorate with age and experience a variety of issues as you continue to get closer to human death. While you will experience many moments of joy, you will also experience many losses along the way.
This cycle of joy and agony will happen to your loved ones too, through their own unique life experiences. Eventually, family and friends will pass away, while grief lingers.
The ups and downs of life will vary in intensity and duration depending on your progression as a human being.
Everything you worked so hard for will eventually be taken from you, whether during your lifetime or after you're gone.
Also, as long as we live in the dimension of time where everything can change, it's inevitable that you will be forgotten, unless you are a historically significant figure in society.
But even society's historical figures are remembered for a limited time, with few people remembering their full stories. And as time passes, their life stories continue to be less remembered.
Thoughts To Help Your Reflection (2)
Time moves quickly when you live a busy life and are caught in a routine of similar daily activities. You find yourself doing the same things day after day, trying to accomplish as much as possible.
Weekends seem to pass in the blink of an eye, and before you know it, weeks, months, and years have gone by. You might find yourself saying things like, "Wow, it's already December!" or "Where did the time go?"
This is for people who are stuck in an extremely routine way of living.
But time also flies for those who have no higher purpose in their lives. They live their life floating, drifting, waiting for something to happen to them.
While they experience many moments of joy, nothing sticks for long, as the moments of joy are fleeting and fail to fill the empty void that answers the question, "Why do I exist?"
Now Reflect
So everything you have done and are currently doing. What is it all for?
Why do you exist?
I provide the thoughts above and ask you this question because to reach a higher, more sustainable happiness, you need an answer that is so meaningful that it anchors your daily way of living.
A higher happiness in your life requires a higher purpose or meaning that carries you every day. Giving you an undeniable reason as to why you wake up every morning for the rest of your life.
So what are your thoughts? Why do you exist to live your life?
In this article, we will discuss how to think about the meaning of your life, regardless of whether you have secular, religious, non-religious, or spiritual beliefs.
